There is a piece I made called Karmic Relationships and Cord Burning.

It is about a specific moment. The moment of release. Not the relationship itself, not the pain of it, and not the story of how it ended. The moment when something that had been held between two people for a long time is finally allowed to complete.

I made it because I could not find words for what that experience actually feels like. The visual said it better.

But the concept it is pointing toward, energy cords and the practice of releasing them, is one worth talking about directly because it is both more literal and more practical than it might sound.

What Energy Cords Actually Are

In the energetic understanding of relationships, every significant connection you have with another person creates a cord.

Not a metaphor. An actual energetic structure. A line of connection between your field and theirs that carries the emotional, karmic, and energetic content of the relationship.

These cords form naturally through shared experience, intense emotion, physical intimacy, and the kind of deep recognition that happens when you meet someone who is part of your soul family or your karmic story.

The cords are not inherently bad. They are simply the architecture of connection. The problem is not that they exist. The problem is when they continue to exist after the relationship has served its purpose and run its course.

An unresolved cord to someone you are no longer in relationship with continues to carry energy in both directions. Their emotional state can affect yours. Their patterns can reinforce yours. You can feel the pull of the connection even when there is no logical reason to still be feeling it.

This is why breakups, estrangements, and endings that should be over keep making themselves felt. The external connection may have ended. The energetic one has not.

The Karmic Dimension

Some cords carry more charge than others because of what they contain.

Karmic relationships, the ones that arrive with an intensity that does not match their timeline, the ones that feel like something old is at work even from the beginning, tend to form the most charged cords.

These are soul contracts. Agreements, in the framework I work with, made before incarnation about the roles we would play in each other's lives. The relationship that teaches you the exact lesson you could not have learned any other way. The person who mirrors back the exact wound that most needs healing.

In the tornado spiral piece, the parallel timelines drawing I think of as the quantum field, I visualized this as intersecting spirals. The timelines of individual souls moving forward but in cyclic, karmic loops. When a karmic relationship comes in, the timelines intersect. The shape and direction of the trajectory are affected by how that intersection plays out.

When the contract is complete, the timelines diverge again. What remains is the cord. And the cord, if it is not consciously released, continues to pull at the trajectory long after the divergence.

What Conscious Cord Release Looks Like

I have an altar in my studio. There is a small wooden board there where I do cord-burning work when I am closing out a relationship or a period that feels complete.

Cord burning is exactly what it sounds like. A ritual of conscious release. The deliberate act of acknowledging what was held between two people, honoring what the connection offered, and then releasing the energetic structure that connected you.

It is not about anger or blame or wanting the other person harm. It is the opposite of that. It is a completion. An acknowledgment that the contract has served its purpose and both parties are free to move forward.

Different practitioners work with this differently. Some use visualization, some use breathwork, some use fire, and some use a combination of all three. The specific method matters less than the intention behind it. The consciousness brought to the act of release is what does the work.

In my practice it tends to involve meditation, a clear intention held in the body, and sometimes a physical ritual element. The altar is the container for it. The physical space that says this is intentional, this is real, this matters.

The Work That Goes Beneath the Cord

One thing I want to name because I think it is important.

Cord cutting on its own does not always reach what is underneath the cord.

Sometimes what needs to be addressed is not just the specific connection but the pattern that made the karmic contract necessary in the first place. The wound that kept attracting the same kind of relationship. The belief about yourself that the karmic dynamic was organized around.

This is where Jodi Teresa's quantum energy healing has been significant in my own practice. She works at the root level, at the subconscious imprint, the ancestral pattern, and the energetic encoding that keeps recreating the same circumstances across different relationships and different lifetimes.

Cord release clears the specific connection. The deeper work clears the pattern that created the need for it.

Both matter. And often the deepest healing happens when you do both.

On Soul Families

Not all cords need to be released.

The collective timeline piece I made explores the other kind of cord. The connection between souls who travel together across lifetimes because of their extremely similar frequency, karma, and contracts.

In that piece, each color represents a different soul on their path. The colors meet at the central line, the darkest point in the drawing, where the collective timeline is grounded onto this plane.

These are the connections that feel like recognition rather than intensity. The people who make you more yourself rather than less. The relationships that do not need to be worked through so much as built on.

Those cords are something different. Not a tether. A thread.

Worth knowing the difference.
